Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Synopsis: Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Review: I kind of liked this book a lot. I'm going to try my hardest to not compare it to Harry Potter so let's see how this goes. I really like the idea of having Greek gods introduced into children's books because I don't know that much about them so the Percy Jackson books are a great way to get kids familiar with this mythology. I kind of had the end figured out. I won't say too much about it because of spoilers, but I kinda knew that he was messed up. Ever since he was introduced I was very wary of him.

I thought the characters were pretty good too, even though if anything that was the biggest similarity to Harry Potter. I know I said I wouldn't, but this is all I'll say alright? Yeah the "brave hero" (Harry/Percy), the "know-it-all" female (Hermione/Annabeth), and the funny best friend (Ron/Grover). Even though it is similar to HP I will gladly be finishing this series, and I will probably start on his new series as well.
