Synopsis: Worlds collide in the third and final installment of the gripping New World Series by Bestselling Author Jennifer Wilson.
Returning to discover their home engulfed in the flames of Tribal war, Phoenix, Mouse and Triven find themselves facing the impossible. A civil war has consumed the city of Tartarus, but with The Wall coming down in sixteen days, they have been given the impossible task of uniting the Tribes to face Fandrin’s army. Can Phoenix unite the murderous clans she has spent her life evading or will they turn on her before the real battle has begun?
Review: This is the final book in the New World series by Jennifer Wilson. Phoenix is still Phoenix, so I don't really have anything to say about characters. I liked getting a little more insight to The Healer, but that was about it. One of the big problems I knew I would have with this last book is how Phoenix interacted with the tribes. The tribes felt very cookie cutter and that bothered me. It was like everyone in the Adroit tribe acted the same way and that just isn't how people are. Again, growing up around gang violence helped me to put this into perspective. A lot of times, groups like these are more of a found family and, even though this series is a post-apocalyptic setting, I wanted more depth from the tribes. We just never got any.
I did like how Phoenix had to threaten the tribes to join her. Where most authors would probably try to make the main character the nice person who wants to reason with the tribes, Phoenix threatens to blow them up which was an interesting take. I appreciated how Jennifer Wilson never held back when it came to the brutality of this world, but everything else seemed lackluster. I might have enjoyed this series more if it was compiled into a single book versus a trilogy and, to be honest, that might be how I feel about a lot of dystopians. Conceptually, this series is alright. I was just bored and not invested as much as I would have liked.
Glad to see how everything turned out, but not a series I plan to revisit.
