Gris (Game Review)

Gris is a beautiful game where you play a girl who watches her colorful world die. She then has to go on a quest to restore the colors, and her voice. Aesthetically, Gris is stunning. Seeing a once vivid world turn colorless, and then seeing the colors become restored was neat to watch. This is a platformer so you have to jump around to navigate this world and unlock abilities to help you progress. While this game was beautiful to look at, that was about the only real positive thing about it. There is no dialogue, so you kind of have to guess at what is going on. I looked at some information about the game and it's supposed to be about grief. I, honestly, didn't even get that as a concept. Maybe it's more obvious to some people, but no dialogue made it difficult for me to pinpoint grief as an overarching theme. Now, there are secret achievements that correspond to the 5 stages of grief. If these were actual parts of the overall game, then it would have made more sense. If you like chill platformers that don't have high stakes in them, then this might be worth checking out. I would have definitely enjoyed it more if the story was better defined.
